Afternoon   'A'

1:00  -  1:30  -  Private Short Course / Jim Tozier

Introduction to Fingerstyle:

A look at some effective exercises for developing right-hand picking
techniques, and for developing melodies based on chords and scales in
standard tuning.  These ideas will be applied in a simple arrangement of Greensleeves (What Child Is This?), so that you’ll have a fingerstyle tune to play in time for the holidays.  Music will be provided for everything covered--in both standard notation and tab.

1:30  -  2:00  -  Private Short Course / Jim Tozier

The Basics of DADGAD:

An introduction to the logic behind one of the most popular alternate
tunings.  Basic scales and chord structures will be identified, so that
you’ll have a roadmap for finding your way around in the tuning.  A DADGAD arrangement of Greensleeves (What Child Is This?) will be used to show how the tuning can be applied in a practical way to a familiar tune.  Standard notation and tab will be provided for all music.

2:00  -  2:30  -  Private Short Course / Jim Tozier

Fun with Fingerstyle:

A variety of techniques for both the left and right hands will be explored, with an emphasis on how they can be used effectively within the context of  songs.  Exercises for developing the techniques will be provided, and Jim will demonstrate their use in his original compositions.  Although the techniques will be presented in DADGAD and CGCGCD tunings, they are applicable to all tunings and styles. Music will be provided.
